Özet
The present study was conducted to determine the effect of L-carnitine on lipid peroxidation and the antioxidant status of Tuj ewes. A total of 20 1- to 2-year-old healthy Tuj ewes were supplemented daily with 500 mg oral carnitine (Carbitol) for three weeks. Blood samples were collected and analysed for glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. A significant decrease in plasma MDA level and increase in GSH levels were observed after L-carnitine supplementation in sheep. In conclusion, the present study shows that L-carnitine has an antioxidant and anti-lipid peroxidation effect in sheep.
