Özet
Senthan Selvarajah links human rights journalism (Shaw, 2012) with peace journalism (Lynch, 2008; Selvarajah, 2021) and the responsibility to protect, exploring the reasons for the failure of the international media to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka in 2009. He compares the practice of ‘Human Rights Journalism’(HRJ) and ‘Human Wrongs Journalism’(HWJ)(Shaw, 2012) 1 using two new analytical tools–the ‘Framing Matrix and Multimodal Discourse Analysis Matrix’(FMMDAM) as well as interviewing journalists and various politicians, human rights NGOs and activists, and identifying typologies of news stories. By focusing on news production processes, he provides multi-dimensional answers to why the humanitarian crisis that occurred during the war in Sri Lanka failed to evoke global compassion and attract attention.
