Özet |
The concepts of immigration, poverty, family and childhood in Nadine Labaki's 2016 film Capharnaüm (Kefernahum) are analyzed in this study. Kefernahum, a French Word, means chaos and disorder. The film has a chaotic atmosphere with features compatible with its title. 12-year-old Zain is the lead actor, who is a Syrian refugee and works on the streets, steal, doesn't have an identity card and struggles to prevent his sister from marrying at a child's age in return for the bride price. Together with him an Ethiopian refugee, an early age mother named Rahil and a 1.5-year-old Yonas child represent the displaced persons who migrate and work illegally on the poor neighborhoods of the Beirut city. Problem of poverty as a result of immigration is a general problem of the country, which is tried to be revealed in the film. The thesis that children are the people affected too much by forced migration is shown in Kefernahum. No paying attention to the methods of birth control, giving birth to children who are forced to beg, commit or work on the streets is another issue in the film. Early motherhood and fatherhood are also associated with forced migration. The film shows that the people have to live in the poorest neighborhoods of the countries to where they had to flee from war or violence, and could not even go to school because they have no identity, are not treated in hospitals, after all they could neither belong to their homeland nor the country where they flee.
