Özet
In the present study, we examined the rare earth sesquioxide (Y2O3, La2O3, Lu2O3) nanoparticles embedded polymethyl methacrylate and epoxy resin polymer nanocomposites as a low-density and lead-free radiation shielding material to meet the need for shielding materials that protect individuals from the harmful effects of gamma radiation. For this purpose, the linear attenuation coefficient, mass attenuation coefficient, mean free path, and half-value layer values of synthesized samples, in the form of wt. 3, 5, and 10% rare earth sesquioxides (Y2O3, La2O3, Lu2O3) embedded polymethyl methacrylate and epoxy resin, were both calculated using WinXCOM software in the 0.001 to 100,000 MeV energy region and measured in a narrow beam transmission geometry using a NaI(Tl) scintillation detector for gamma-ray energies of 662, 1173 and 1332 keV emitted from 137Cs and 60Co radioactive sources.
