Özet
In the present study, the abortions observed in sheep and goat in Kars Province were investigated seroepidemiologically as well as aetiologically. For this purpose, blood, milk, vaginal mucus and aborted foetus were taken from two different herds extensively raised in the Tekneli Village and Saǧbaş Village of Kars and Kaǧi{dotless}zman, respectively. Total of 204 serum samples from sheep, goat and ram were examinated for serological purpose. In addition, the bacterial culture was attempted from 39 milk and 39 vaginal mucus from 35 sheep and 4 goats with a history of abortion and one aborted foetus samples. Of 204 blood serum samples, anti-Brucella antibodies were detected in 74 (%36.27) analysed by both slide agglutination test (Rose Bengal Plate Test, RBPT) and tube agglutination test (Serum Agglutination Test, SAT). As a result of cultural examination of 39 aborted animals, Brucella melitensis in 11 (%28.2) and Campylobacter coli in 4 (%10.25) samples were isolated and identified. C. coli was simultaneously isolated and identified from vaginal discharge samples of two sheep from which B. melitensis was isolated from their milk samples.
