| E. Atakisi, K. Bozukluhan, O. Atakisi, HI Gokce tRAuMAtIc reticuloperitonitis (tRp) is a relatively common disease in adult cattle resulting from trauma caused by ingested foreign bodies (Radostitis and others 1994, Aiello 1998). these foreign bodies, such as nails or pieces of wire, perforate the wall of the reticulum and cause various complications, including reticulitis, peritonitis, hepatitis, pleuritis, pericarditis and septicaemia (Radostitis and others 1994, Ward and Ducharme 1994, Braun and others 2007). Reactive oxygen components are produced during metabolic or physiological processes, and can cause harmful oxidative reactions. these oxidative reactions are blocked by enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidative mechanisms. In certain circumstances, an increase in oxidants in the absence of sufficient antioxidants tilts the balance towards a state of oxidative stress. Oxidative stress may develop during infections and in conditions such as osteoarthritis and gastric reperfusion damage (halliwell 1994, Naito and others 1998, Koracevic and others 2001, erel 2005). Furthermore, an important degree of negative correlation between total antioxidant capacity (tAc) and total oxidant capacity (tOc) in animals suffering diseases that cause oxidative stress has been reported (Yanik and others 2004).Nitric oxide (NO) is generated from the terminal guanidine nitrogen atom of L-arginine by NO synthase (Marletta 1989), and is released from a variety of cells (Degroote and Fang 1994, Gokce and Woldehiwet 2002). NO is an important molecule involved in physiological and pathological processes in mammals. It can be protective or hazardous for organs or … |
