Özet
This study was conducted to determine the distribution of body coat colour and the body measurements of Turkish native horses of different age and sex groups in the Kars region, Turkey. A total of 117 horses were divided into four groups based on their age (3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9 years old). The distributions of body coat colour were 41.46, 41.46, 12.20, 2.44, 1.63 and 0.81% for grey, bay, chestnut, black, splashed white and buckskin, respectively. Additionally, the least squares means of height at withers, body length, heart girth, chest depth, chest width, height at rump, cannon circumference, head length and ears length were 137.26, 137.60, 151.17, 61.03, 38.71, 137.66, 17.23, 54.78 and 16.59 cm, respectively. The values for heart girth, chest depth, chest width and head length were lower in horses aged 3-4 years old and highest in horses aged 7-8 years old (P<0.05).
