Özet |
This study was conducted to determine possible changes in sialic acid levels following L-carnitine supplementation in ewes. 20 ewes were supplemented with 500 mg L-carnitine for 3 weeks and their plasma total sialic acid (TSA), lipid bound sialic acid (LSA) and protein bound sialic acid (PSA) were monitored. Oral supplementation of L-carnitine significantly decreased TSA levels at second and third weeks of administration, while LSA decreased at week 3. PSA values were not affected throughout the study. It is concluded that the addition of L-carnitine to diets proves beneficial for reducing sialic acid levels in the blood. |
