| Özet |
| The relationship between the cadmium (Cd) induced toxicity, its tissue distribution and the expression of metallothionein (MT) over the time course were studied by examining the alterations in the distribution of MT in Cd-exposed rabbit organs using immunohistochemical techniques. A total of 19 New Zealand White rabbits were randomly assigned into 4 groups. Cd was administered intraperitoneally (6 mg/kg body weight for 8 days in drinking water at 100 and 1000 mg/litre for 28 and 12 weeks, respectively) for a period of 7 months. Intoxication with Cd led to the accumulation of this toxic metal in the liver and kidneys, which was linked to MT synthesis. These effects were dependent on the level of exposure and the route of administration. MT labelling was also shown in the other tissues and organs with the exception of the lungs and lacrymal glands. The most prominent MT expression was found after … |
