Özet
The purpose of the study was to determine the levels of serum haptoglobin, oxidative indicators and some biochemical parameters in calves naturally infected with Toxocara vitulorum, and to investigate their diagnostic importance. For this purpose, 10 clinically healthy calves as control and 20 calves with naturally infected with T. vitulorum at 1-3 months of age with different gender total 30 Brown Swiss calves were used. Blood samples were collected from V. jugularis for biochemical analyses. Part of blood samples were stored without any process as a whole blood. The serum was seperated from remaining blood samples. Whole blood reduced glutathione (GSH), serum malondialdehyde (MDA), haptoglobin, albumin, aspartate amino transferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), urea, total protein and iron (Fe) levels were determined by colorimetric methods. Levels of serum haptoglobin (P<0.01), AST, ALP and MDA (P<0.05) were determined to increase in blood whereas the levels of albumin, total protein, Fe, GSH (P<0.05) decreased in calves infected with T. vitulorum. In conclusion, the results indicated that the acute phase response was occured in calves infected with T. vitulorum, and as a results of this, the levels of serum haptoglobin synthesis increased, the functions of liver deteriorated and oxidative stress was amplified.
